Book jacket for Toni Morrison's Jazz.

This book jacket redesign for Jazz by Toni Morrison uses bold color, layered imagery, and restrained typography to reflect the novel’s structure and tone. A monochrome palette creates strong shelf presence, while the blurred figures reference movement, nightlife, and the emotional tension in the story without illustrating it literally. All drawings are done by me.

Original Artwork & Color Treatment.

All of the illustrations used on the jacket were hand-drawn by myself specifically for this project. Rather than relying on stock imagery, I created custom figures and textures to control the tone, movement, and abstraction of the composition. After painting the figures, I applied custom color treatments, overlays, and contrast adjustments to unify the composition and achieve the bold monochrome effect.
